Overview & Highlights

Nestled along the historic Canongate in Edinburgh, Clarinda's Tearoom offers an authentically charming experience steeped in tradition and warmth. This quaint tea house, with its cozy vintage decor—featuring crochet tablecloths, embroidered linens, and delicate floral china—feels like stepping into a lovingly preserved moment of Scottish hospitality. From the moment you enter, the inviting aroma of freshly brewed tea and baked goods wraps around you like a gentle embrace, promising a delightful respite from the bustling city streets.

Clarinda's specializes in classic Scottish breakfast and light meals, with a menu that celebrates simple, hearty flavors elevated by quality ingredients. Start your day with the Full Scottish Breakfast (£15.00), a robust and satisfying plate that embodies genuine Scottish comfort food. For a lighter option, the Porridge (£6.50) offers a creamy, warming start, while the Salmon Scrambled Eggs & Scottish Smoked Salmon (£13.50) provides a luxurious yet balanced combination of freshness and smokiness that lingers on the palate.

The tearoom’s toasted sandwiches are a delight, with inventive fillings such as Pesto, Tomato & Mozzarella (£9.90) and the uniquely Scottish Haggis or Veggie Haggis paired with Cheddar Cheese, offering savory bites perfect with a cup of expertly brewed Americano (£3.90) or their rich Flat White. One cannot visit Clarinda’s without savoring their freshly baked scone & butter (£3.70), a quintessential Scottish treat praised by visitors as “yummiest scones” with a tender crumb and just the right sweetness to pair beautifully with Clarinda’s excellent tea selection.

Patrons consistently highlight not only the quality of food but the heartfelt service and intimate atmosphere. “It feels like your grandma’s living room,” one guest shared, capturing the homely charm that makes Clarinda’s more than just a place to eat but a genuine Edinburgh institution. Despite the tearoom’s small size—with only eight tables—it buzzes with warmth, conviviality, and the gentle clink of cups, a reminder of slower, more thoughtful times.

Whether you come for a leisurely breakfast, an afternoon tea adorned with delicate cakes and tray bakes, or a simple moment to unwind with a comforting bowl of the soup of the day (£5.80), Clarinda’s Tearoom delivers a memorable experience rooted in tradition and heartfelt hospitality. The friendly staff—described by visitors as the “sweetest”—enhance each visit, making every customer feel welcomed and cared for. Amazing and delicious tea room. Tasty cakes , wonderful tea and so nice people inside for serving. Great Place to drink good tea, eat something delicious and pass nice time in Edinburgh.

We went for afternoon tea and everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The place was a bit small and noisy but the design was very beautiful. We didn’t have to share our table with others but there were people who had to because of the crowd. It’s a venue that really captures the spirit of a traditional tea room.

A quintessential Edinburgh experience! Tasty tea, scones, shortbread, and quiche in what feels like your grandmas living room. The service was lovely. We arrived to a line of 6 others, and were seated in around 5 minutes sharing with the others in line. At around 2pm a few baked treats had sold out.

Charming little tea room with only 8 tables. It opens at 930 in the morning and get filled so fast. They offer various selection of cakes (gorgeous ones) and breakfast menu (I was there for breakfast). Food was decent and price was fine. The interior of the place is what really make the place charming. Tables with crochet tablecloth or embroidery. Little cups with flowers.

We had envisioned our holiday in Scotland to include a delightful meal at Clarinda's Tearoom in Edinburgh. Although our research led us to the opposite side of town from the Edinburgh Marketplace rail station, our journey along the Royal Mile was truly enriching. We encountered the vibrant sights and sounds, exploring numerous Scottish souvenir shops and the Edinburgh Museum, both highlights on our itinerary. Finding Clarinda's on the Royal Mile proved easy. Upon arrival at lunchtime, the tearoom buzzed with energy. We were fortunate to connect with a warm and friendly American woman who generously shared her table with us after another guest departed. Our conversation flowed effortlessly, as we exchanged stories of our experiences in Scotland. At the same time, she spoke of her recent arrival from Boston and her anticipation of a camping adventure in the Scottish Highlands with new acquaintances. Her spirit of adventure inspired us! Clarinda's Tearoom lived up to its glowing reviews, offering a charming atmosphere, attentive service, and delicious food. I savored the broccoli and cheddar soup paired with a cup of chai latte, a recommendation from a Google reviewer. Typically eager to capture food photos, I was captivated by our engaging conversation instead. Leaving Clarinda's, we celebrated checking it off our holiday list. With welcoming staff and a cozy ambiance, it left a lasting impression and truly enriched our Scottish adventure.

One of the best breakfast places ive ever been to. The yummiest scones, really nice tea, great atmosphere and fantastic service by the sweetest staff. It looks like an old school tea room, which is much more authentic than the high tea you get at fancier hotels.

Must to try in Edinburgh…great at atmosphere.. friendly staff … the scone is very tasty… I recommend this place … the tea shop since 1977

A charming and cozy tearoom with a lovely vintage atmosphere. Clarinda’s feels warm and welcoming from the moment you step inside. The cakes are delicious and freshly made, and the tea selection is excellent. The staff are friendly and make the experience even better. A perfect spot for a relaxing break in Edinburgh. Highly recommended!
